Editorials   Ninten-Debates: The surprise Nintendo game of E3.
- By Travis Coats [Editor In Chief]

Welcome to another edition of Ninten-Debates. Today's topic - will there be any secret games announced at E3? If so, what are our predictions? Read on to find out.

Nathan: I predict mass panic and bomb threats!

Travis: That would only happen if Rare announces third party status. Well, that or if Ken Lobb is there.

Mike: In regards to secret games, I feel that it begins and ends in 2 simple words - Kid Icarus. How do I know this? That is simple, because in Smash Bros Melee, on the Pit trophy there was the phrase "Will Pit ever fight again?" I think it might be cel-shaded though.

Travis: I can see how that could be possible. Highly unlikely though… but then again I never thought Luigi would get his own game either.

Nathan: But why was not on the brochure?

Mike: Simple, THIS IS NINTENDO!!! You really think the big N has shown all of their games on that brochure? I don’t.

Travis:
That brochure can’t have all of the titles. I mean Donkey Kong Racing isn’t on it, and unless Rare is dumber than hell, the game is still coming.

Nathan:
But if the brochure was slated to be released post-E3, why would they fail to tack it on? I have heard the DKR is not looking so sure after all... If Rare does go third party, we can expect some mascot removals. Bonkey Fong Racing… brought to you by Rare.

Travis:
Let us hope not. Rare cannot possibly be stupid enough to release a non-mascot game on all three platforms based on animal racing. They have to know DKR would sell more on just GameCube than this "Animal Racing" crap would on all three combined.

Mike:
Back to the subject at hand. What do you think Nate?

Nathan:
Hmm, I think we'll see a wee bit on Mario Kart (knock-knock-knocking on wood), but not much. Perhaps we might even get a wee smidge o' Perfect Dark too. PD aside, I'm hoping beyond hope we'll see some Kart. If Mario Kart were a woman, I would marry her! Or least stalk her every move until the restraining order was levied against me.

Travis:
Mario Kart is a good choice. The online service is rumored to be revealed, and what better game to show it off with? Well, besides Pokemon anyway?

Nathan:
That makes sense ...and that would explain why they have been so hush-hush on the game.

Mike:
Yeah, I think Mario Kart is a given.

Nathan:
Given to ulta-mate fineness!

Travis:
With all this Rare leaving talk, try to avoid the word Ultimate. Anyway, so far we have Pit and Mario’s gang. Who else?

Mike:
What do you mean "what else?" Kid Icarus is all we need!

Travis:
Hey, I love Pit as much as the next guy, but you know Nintendo. There is always a big surprise. Last year it was Pikmin. It has to be big to top that.

Nathan:
Maybe we'll see some Final Fantasy GameCube stuff unveiled. Nothing concrete mind you, but enough to continue our suspension of disbelief.

Travis:
Bah. Square… Traitors. Ya’ know, I’m thinking this Rare rumor has me a tad bitter. I need a cookie.

Nathan:
Rare has ruined two of my favorite words--"perfect", and "dark". One doesn't need much else in this life. Besides maybe “tunes.”

Travis:
Or “cookies”.

Mike:

Mike:
Ok, I've got another one - Super Smash Brothers ADVANCE.

Travis:
That’s not a bad guess Mike. What if the surprise is that it hooks up to the GameCube version? That would be kind of neat.

Nathan:
Super Smash Brothers Advance would be pretty cool. I think I would enjoy it more on the GBA than I do on the Cube. Anyway, my choice for the biggest surprise is going to be Mario Kart. Kid Icarus would make me happy and all, but I personally think we will have to wait for that one. All we will get is some pre-rendered footage if anything. I hope I’m wrong though. That little Greek stinker makes me all bubbly inside.

Travis:
So the grand total is two for Mario Kart, and one for ol’ Pit. Well, no matter what game (or games) it turns out to be, Mike said it best. This is Nintendo. We are going to be surprised no matter what.
