Think you have the Mario Golf goods?
- By Neal
Gittens [Associate Editor]
Having recently relapsed into my Mario Golf 64 addiction, I have again set to smashing my course records in each of the tournaments. For this update, I thought I would post the best records I hold on each course, and see if the readership can attempt to beat them. Here are the ground rules:
Play the course in Tournament mode.
DON’T CHEAT!!! Honesty counts for something here. Don’t replay holes constantly until you have eagles on every hole. If I see scores of –36, I will be forced to raise a few questions in my mind. I used to have all kinds of super low scores from playing that way, (mainly while earning birdie badges) but I erased them, and have since set records based only on my incredible skills on the course. (Or something to that effect.)
OK, to loosen it up a little, I will allow you ONE mulligan (ONE replay of ONE hole) in a round. None of my scores used one, but I will allow one, just to ease the restrictions a bit. (Aren’t I nice?)
Send your records/screenshots to one of our magnificent sports editors, an we will determine the best of the best.
Now, this is just a friendly contest among those who read our glorious site, and the reward you shall receive is the print of your name among the other greats in Mario Golf. (Myself included.) So, without further ado, I now present… the scores.
Toad Highlands ==> -17 (set about 8 times over the course of the last few years)
Koopa Park ==> -17 (tied 3 times in the last week)
Shy Guy Desert ==> -15 (set yesterday, July 23, 2002)
Yoshi’s Island ==> -13 (this is the toughest course for me to shoot low on consistently)
Boo Valley ==> -11 (set July 21, 2002)
Mario’s Star ==> -11 (set July 22, 2002. I lipped out a putt on 18, or it would be -12! Grrrr…)
As you can plainly see, I have been playing the game a TON in the last week or so. Most of these are one or two shot improvements over my old records. So, as they appear here, you can shoot for them. If you want to send a screenshot of your score, that would be outstanding, and would provide indisputable visual confirmation of your greatness. I will try to have shots up of my own scores as soon as possible. When I receive the top responses, I will post them, and you can tell all your friends to go to NGenres.com and see your name in lights. Good golfing to you!!!
