News   E3 2003: Kirby Air Ride
- Posted By Travis Coats, 05.14.2003

Kirby may not be the most recognizable Nintendo character, nor the most loved, but his first GameCube adventure sure is a gem.

First off, forget all that you may have heard about this game. The naysayers are completely wrong. Out of all the games I have had the pleasure of playing today, Kirby Air Ride has captured my heart. With its extremely simplistic control scheme and average graphics, I thought perhaps Nintendo had made an error of judgement with this title. Then I actually played it. It's amazing how much your perspective changes when you step past a first impression and get into the heart of something. Never judge a book by its cover and all that.

Now, I consider myself a somewhat mature person, and few games can make me grin like a small child, but the entire time I had Kirby under my control, I was beaming. This game has such a sense of speed, and ... finesse. That is the only word I can use to describe it. While more and more games are all about graphics, sound, and presentation, along comes a Nintendo title (Surprise, surprise) that places substance over style.

I feel that I cannot adequately describe the magic that HAL Labs has created with Kirby Air Ride. Words just do not do this game justice. They cheapen it in fact. Yes, I am crazy, and perhaps you may doubt the power of pink now... but once you play this magnificent game, you too will understand.
