This news isn't new by any stretch of the imagination, but it's always nice to hear things straight from the horse's mouth.
Take a look at what ATI has to say about their involvement with the Cube.
MARKHAM, Ontario - ATI Technologies Inc. (TSE:ATY, NASDAQ: ATYT), a world leader in the supply of graphics, video and multimedia solutions, demonstrated its dedication to the consumer electronics market with the successful Japanese launch of the NINTENDO GAMECUBE(TM) game console - a product that prominently displays the ATI logo. Placement of the ATI logo on the NINTENDO GAMECUBE, which will be seen by millions of consumers, is proof of the high-quality immersive visual experience provided by the world's graphics technology pioneer.
"To acknowledge ATI's partnership and technological expertise in the NINTENDO GAMECUBE, Nintendo has positioned the ATI logo on the console," said Genyo Takeda, Corporate Director and General Manager of Integrated Research and Development, Nintendo Co., Ltd. "Nintendo recognizes ATI as a world leader in the development of innovative and high performance graphics technology for consumers."
"We're proud to be a partner with Nintendo in the development of NINTENDO GAMECUBE," said Dave Orton, President & Chief Operating Officer, ATI Technologies Inc. "ATI continues to provide high-quality solutions for the consumer electronics market. Whether it's home entertainment delivered with NINTENDO GAMECUBE, set-top boxes and multimedia video graphics cards, or through future products such as wireless and handheld devices, ATI is enabling the best visual experience with graphics technology for consumers."
NINTENDO GAMECUBE features a revolutionary graphics processor, called the 'Flipper' chip, from ATI. The highly integrated processor includes both a 2D and 3D graphics engine, a DSP (digital signal processor) for audio processing, all system I/O (input/output) functions including CPU (central processing unit), system memory, controllers, optical disk, flash card, modem and video interfaces, and an on-chip high bandwidth frame buffer.
As a big fan of ATI, nothing pleases me more than to see their logo on Nintendo's new cube of lovin'. Combine the GameCube with the latest Radeon PC video cards, and ATI is easily setting itself up to be the dominant force in the videogame industry.
I wish them all the success possible, and I hope the ATI / Nintendo partnership continues for years to come.
