Preview Tekken Advance
- By Mike Ryan
Originally an arcade or Playstation/PS2 exclusive, the Tekken series will finally make its way to a Nintendo system near you. Developed in-house by Namco, Tekken Advance for the Game Boy Advance is expected to bring the same intense fighting experience from the arcade and home consoles to basically anywhere you want to take it.
Although not a completely new game, fans of the series (or any fighting game for that matter) should be just as content with a port of Tekken 3. The characters will be rendered to simulate their arcade/Playstation counterparts, the camera will zoom in and out during the match, and the ring will rotate, giving the game the 3D-esque feel that Tekken is known for.
Nine characters will be playable in Tekken Advance - Forest Law, Ling Xiaoyu, Gun Jack, Paul Pheonix, Yoshimitsu, King, Nina Williams, Hwoarang, and Jin Kazama - and Namco just wouldn't be Namco if they did not throw some hidden characters in the mix. The game also supports two-player matches, if both players have a copy of the game. There will also be different gameplay options, which includes a training mode.
Namco says the game will hit store shelves this December, but at EBgames.com, the tentative release date is January 29, 2002. We will just have to wait and see what develops. Let's just hope it is the former date and not the latter.
