Preview  Capcom VS SNK 2: EO
- By Francis Bonnet

SNK may have closed up shop, but that doesn’t mean its legacy won’t live on. Capcom is releasing one of its latest fighters, Capcom VS SNK 2: EO (Extreme Offence) for the Nintendo Gamecube. The game features characters from Capcom’s universe pit against players of the SNK universe. However, don’t expect the crazy fighting found in the Marvel VS Capcom series, Capcom VS SNK relies more on skill and strategy than button mashing.

Basically, this port (which also appeared on Dreamcast and Playstation 2) has a few extra features that help to make fighting a little easier for players who may be turned off by the layout of the Gamecube controller. Now special moves can be accomplished by simply pressing the C-stick in a certain direction instead of relying on the Gamecube’s directional pad. In addition to auto-blocking there is also another new feature, which relies on pressure sensitivity. The harder you push the L or R button, the more powerful your attacks will be.

Capcom VS SNK 2 boasts six different fighting styles. C-Groove is the basic Capcom fighting style from the first Capcom VS SNK. A-Groove is similar to the style found in the Street Fighter Alpha series. P-Groove allows parrying and stronger super meter attacks. S-Groove is the traditional SNK style found in the first Capcom VS SNK. N-Groove is a fighting style similar to SNK’s King of Fighters series. And finally we have K-Groove, which is a defensive fighting style making your opponents attacks less effective and giving your power-meter attack some extra power.

For those of you who already own a version of Capcom VS SNK 2, there probably won’t be enough features to make this game worth your while. However, if you don't own a version of it, or you happen to be a huge fan of 2D fighting games, then this is going to be one you'll want to keep your eye on.
