Preview  Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2
- By Matt Regashus

Activision hit on a pretty good marketing idea a few years back: make an extreme sports game, throw the name of a big star of that extreme sport on it, add a snazzy soundtrack, sell a ridiculous amount of copies. Voila! Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX, Shaun Palmer's Pro Snowboarder, etc.

Not to be outdone, Acclaim has given the world the Dave Mirra Freestlye BMX series, and looks to bring the second outing to the Gamecube on November 18.

The game has already been released on the Playstation 2, but Acclaim and developer Z-Axis are bringing plenty of new things to the table for the Cube. This includes graphical enhancements and two new Gamecube exclusive levels.

Those new levels should make this already deep game even deeper, with a total of ten levels (Acclaim says they are four times bigger than in the original), 14 different BMX riders (including, of course, 10 time world Champion Dave Mirra), and park editor.

The real depth shows in the tricks; Dave Mirra sports the S.I.K. trick system, which can be used to pull off over 1500 tricks and stunts.

Dave Mirra looks to offer plenty to both single player and multi-player fans, with an extensive one-player "ProQuest" mode that lets players go through the world tour collecting 40 real BMX sponsors. There are also 10 different multi-player modes, so there should be plenty of options of play when there is more than one player.

Whether or not Dave Mirra Freestlye BMX 2 can reach the same heights as Tony Hawk remains to be seen, but the Playstation 2 version was very good and the Gamecube version promises to do the same.
