Preview Jeremy McGrath Supercross World
- By Matt Regashus
Acclaim certainly loves their bike and dirt games. Not only will Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX be coming to Gamecube on launch day, but Jeremy McGrath Supercross World will also make an appearance on Nintendo's next generation system.
While Dave Mirra caters to those who like their bikes to have pedals and chains, Jeremy McGrath is for those who like their bikes with a little motorized kick-Supercross. From the early looks of it, there should be plenty for those out there who like the details of supercross racing. (Yeah, that means you, with the Fox logo on your shirt.)
Both bikes and racers can be customized as you progress through the game. Bike upgrades deal with acceleration, top speed, cornering, and suspension, while racers upgrade their strength, slide, stability, and strangely, charisma. Apparently supercross riders have to be charismatic to get the chicks.
There are also 25 tracks, offering plenty of variation throughout the game. This includes eight outdoor supercross tracks, eight indoor supercross tracks, 4 indoor stunt tracks, and five outdoor free ride tracks.
While Jeremy McGrath may not be the Excitebike sequel many Nintendo fans would love to see, it is still shaping up nicely and should fit the supercross niche well as that sport gets bigger and bigger.
