Preview  Dave Mirra's Freestyle BMX
- By Travis Coats

How about a hypothetical question? What do you do when you are a major publisher and have just had a successful game released for Game Boy Advance? Well the answer is easy. You make another one. Now you don’t make an exact copy of the game… no. You do however give this title a different name to start. Then, you switch a few aspects of gameplay here and there and voila. You have an instant recycled hit.

The game in question is none other than Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX for Game Boy Advance. With its graphical style it almost appears to be a carbon copy of the portable Tony Hawk 2. Perhaps I am being too hard on the game, it does have a nice list of features that are listed below.

Twelve riders to choose from.

Thirteen different areas that range from dirt to street surfaces.

Three different modes such as Session, Freeride and something called Proquest.

A multiplayer option for added fun.

The ability to upgrade everything from rider’s abilities to their bike’s statistics.

Taking all of this into consideration, I think this game would stand on its own if it just didn’t look like a blatant rip-off of Tony Hawk 2. It is not for me to decide though, as ultimately the decision will rest with the consumer.
