Review  Cruis'n World
- By Rob Schlicht  [Contributing Editor]

Wow... if I didn't know better, I'd swear this is the same game as Cruis'n USA. But it's not. It's new. However, it should've been called Cruis'n USA 2.0, because this is basically the same thing, with a few updates, most notably the one where tracks take place around the world, instead of just the country. Woohoo! This game has a ton of cars, way more than the original, which is good, but only three or four are worth a drive.

Aesthetics:

The graphics DID get improved. Well, that's not completely true. Textures are still blurry and repeated, obstacles are blocky sprites, it's foggier than a burning oil refinery, and there's pop-up galore. On the plus side, the framerate is vastly improved, conveying a better sense of speed.

Sound:
Sound is pretty much the same. Engines are a bit better, but that's it. Your favorite midi tunes, in glorious mono, have returned. There's more voices than the original, but they're more annoying, as well.

Control:
The only difference in control are the stunts you can perform when going off jumps. Each stunts earns you 1 or 2 points, and when you earn enough, you'll get upgrades for your existing car, and new cars. It's a great idea... for the first few gifts. After that, it gets tiresome building up 1000's of points for a new paintjob.

Gameplay:
Single-player is as bad as ever, and multiplayer is worse. Instead of driving fastest to win, it's now all about who can can honk the horn enough to annoy the other players into quitting.

OVERALL:
This game wouldn't have been made if you didn't buy or rent the first one. Please don't give them money, or you'll see another Cruis'n soon enough.
