Review WCW vs. NWO World Tour

After so many months of waiting I finally have the game in my hands. The game had been out in the USA for ages and I wanted it so much. On the day of its NZ release, I rang up Gamesman to see if it had arrived. I was pleased to hear it had and my copy was waiting for me to pick it up. With out delay I grabbed my copy imagined the fun I would have with the game when I got home. I had some
mates around and we were all eagerly waiting to see how this game turned out. Well enough of this garbage here is my thoughts on the game. I popped the game into my N64 and was treated to the WCW disclaimer, the Asmik logo, and the THQ logo. Then suddenly the intro played and it was the Giant standing in the ring doing his taunt. Then the camera shifts behind him and shows Hogan playing to the crowd outside the ring. Suddenly Sting drops down from the rafters (with a black bat in one hand) in
to the ring. Wow! Who said cinemas aren't good? Then it showed some clips from the game. I was then presented to a mode select screen which includes: WCW vs. NWO which is where you choose five wrestlers and your opponent chooses another 5 wrestlers. You start out wrestling each other and whoever wins the match stays and the loser leaves until everyone from one team has been defeated. The second option is exhibition where you can do single, tag team, handicap, and battle royal. The battle royal is where you have 4 guys controlled by any combination of CPU and human. The winner is declared when the other three members have been beaten by each other. Lots of fun! The third option is the League Challenge where you beat each league to gain access to the bosses, then you beat the bosses to get the super bosses, and then you get to wrestle in 4 PPVs. They are Starcade, nWo Souled Out, Final Blast, and IUGP Championship. The fourth option is league where you get to choose from a singles or tag team round-robin tournament, where the winner is declared by who has the most points (by wins 3, draws 1, and losses 0). The final option is the tournament, which is single elimination style. The games graphics are beautiful with super-smooth animation, they are way better than the ones on PSX's WCW Vs the World. The wrestlers have many different outfits which come from their current ring attire, past ring attire, and ring attire from other federations. Like Hakushi's WWF tattoo body and Lex
Luger's WWF American outfit. The moves are absolutely incredible. The weapons are real cool, by going to the outside ring gate and pressing top C you can get a wide variety of bats, chairs, and tables. The taunts are good like Syxx's crotch chop, but some of them aren't as good as they could be. The music is pretty decent and the sound effects are ok. Now here are the bad things. Where in the world is the create a belt bet a belt mode I had read so much about? And where is the switching of wrestlers to WCW nWo mode? There are lots of real wrestlers, but there are heaps of made up guys in the game. Some of the guys that are supposed to be made up are actually real wrestlers (Black Belt = Taka Misinoku). Also I would've liked some commentary or some voices in the game. Overall this game is a great wrestling game that will have you hooked for hours. So if you haven't already, go out and buy the game... you won't regret it. It is VERY addicting.
